Westminster, South Carolina: Grieving Community Stunned as Grandson Charged in Parents’ Murder

Westminster, South Carolina — A quiet rural road in this Upstate town has become the scene of heartbreak and disbelief after authorities arrested 19‑year‑old Levi Kevin Jones in the brutal killing of his own grandparents, Larry and Sandra Moore. The couple, beloved in their small community and known for their generosity and faith, were discovered dead in their home on January 15.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office said Jones was taken into custody late Friday night on charges that include two counts of murder and two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Bond was denied in a magistrate hearing Saturday morning.

Investigators were called to the Moore home on Cromer Moore Drive, near Westminster, after a family member couldn’t reach the couple and found their bodies inside. Larry, 76, and Sandra, 75, were longtime residents of the area and pillars of their church and community.

Sheriff’s officials say the evidence in the arrest warrants paints a grim picture: Larry Moore suffered multiple stab wounds to the neck and torso, and Sandra Moore was strangled, cutting off her airway. A knife believed to be the murder weapon was found at the scene.

Friends and neighbors described the Moores as kind, churchgoing people who ran the Moore & Moore Fish Camp restaurant for decades before retiring in 2016. Their home was on a quiet stretch where everyone knew everyone, and the violence has shaken residents to the core.

In the days after the killings, authorities kept details tight as they processed evidence and spoke with family members. Investigators said they have a possible motive but are not releasing it yet, leaving the tight‑knit community searching for answers.

Now with Jones in custody at the Oconee County Detention Center, the story of a peaceful couple and the betrayal by their own grandson has become a tragedy that neighbors say will linger in Westminster for years. As the case moves forward, the community is rallying around the Moore family in grief, remembering Larry and Sandra for their warmth, devotion, and the many lives they touched.
