Raymond, Maine is in shock after a fatal collision on Monday evening took the life of 20‑year‑old Seth Hodgkins of Greenwood. Hodgkins was riding his motorcycle north on Webb’s Mills Road, also known as Route 85, just before 7:30 p.m. when the crash unfolded at the intersection with Tarkiln Hill Road. The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office says a southbound SUV turned left into his path, setting off a tragic chain of events.
Officials believe the first impact came when a 2012 Toyota RAV4, driven by 23‑year‑old Seth Thayer of Raymond, attempted that left turn and collided with Hodgkins’ bike. The force of the crash threw Hodgkins from the motorcycle into the path of a second SUV, a 2015 GMC Terrain driven by 55‑year‑old Christopher Akers of Casco. Hodgkins was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a helmet at the time and early investigation indicates alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
Friends, family, and colleagues are mourning a young man remembered as someone who gave more than he took. Hodgkins served as an EMT with the Buckfield Fire Rescue Department, where he had earned respect for his calm under pressure and his willingness to help anyone in need. In messages shared by those who knew him, colleagues said his loss is felt deeply and that his presence in the community will be sorely missed.
Emergency crews, including a crash reconstruction team from Windham Police, continued their work at the scene and are assisting the sheriff’s office in piecing together the final moments before the collision.
