The quiet neighborhood in Kearns was shaken late Monday night when a domestic disturbance turned deadly inside a family home. Police say 64-year-old Floyd Allred shot and killed his wife, 61-year-old Kaylene Allred, before turning the gun on her two children and then himself.
Officers were called to a home along West Twilight Drive just before 10:30 p.m. after reports of a disturbance. As they approached the house, they heard gunfire. Moments later, two adults came out of the home wounded, both suffering from gunshot injuries.

Inside, officers found Floyd Allred and Kaylene Allred dead. Investigators say the shooting unfolded quickly and left little time for anyone inside to react or escape. What began as a private domestic situation ended in irreversible loss.
Kaylene’s two adult children, identified as Brittany and Christian, were rushed to the hospital in serious condition. Authorities later confirmed they had been stabilized and were able to speak with detectives. Their survival now stands as the only thread of hope in an otherwise devastating night.
Neighbors described the couple as long-time residents who had built a life together in the community. For many living nearby, the violence came as a shock, breaking the sense of normalcy in a place where families felt safe.
Police have called the incident isolated, stressing there is no ongoing threat to the public. Investigators are still working to understand what led up to the shooting, with state authorities assisting in piecing together the final moments inside the home.
In the days since, a fundraiser has been set up to support the surviving children as they recover physically and emotionally. The response has been steady, though it reflects the weight of a tragedy that has left a family fractured and a community searching for answers.
