Milpitas, Calif. — A quiet South Bay neighborhood was shaken Tuesday afternoon when 17‑year‑old Jarred Cavan was stabbed and killed during a fight near Milpitas High School just after school let out. The incident unfolded at about 3:50 p.m. on Vienna Drive, a few steps from the school campus, leaving classmates, families and residents stunned. Authorities say the fight involved several teens and quickly turned deadly.
According to police reports, officers responded within minutes of multiple 911 calls reporting a group of youths fighting near the school. When emergency personnel arrived, they found Cavan with serious stab wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he later died, leaving behind a grieving community and questions about what triggered the confrontation.
