Lynchburg’s Daysun Wilson, 22, Shot Dead at Apartment Complex — Suspect Still on the Run

A young man from Halifax is gone too soon, and the person believed to have pulled the trigger is nowhere to be found. Daysun Wilson, just 22 years old, was shot and killed Sunday evening at the Millwood Apartments in Lynchburg, Virginia — and the man charged with his murder hasn’t been caught yet.

It all went down around 8:20 in the evening on May 18th. Somebody called the cops reporting gunshots at 6224 Old Mill Road, and when officers rolled up to the scene, Wilson was already gone — rushed to Lynchburg General Hospital in a private vehicle by someone who didn’t wait around for an ambulance. Doctors did what they could, but it wasn’t enough. Wilson was pronounced dead not long after he arrived.

What makes this whole thing even heavier is that Wilson and the man accused of killing him actually knew each other. This wasn’t some random act of street violence between strangers. According to investigators, the two got into an argument — and at some point during that altercation, things escalated fast. The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Ke John McGhee of Richmond, Virginia, reportedly pulled out a handgun and opened fire. Wilson didn’t survive.

McGhee has been charged with Second Degree Murder and Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony. But here’s the thing that’s got a lot of people uneasy right now — nobody knows where he is. Police say his whereabouts are currently unknown, and that’s a word that carries real weight when a man is wanted for murder.

Law enforcement has put out a description of McGhee to help the public keep an eye out. He’s described as a Black male, roughly 5 feet 9 inches tall and around 130 pounds. Agencies across the region have been looped in and are actively working to track him down and bring him in.

Back at the scene, Lynchburg’s Criminal Investigations Division has taken over the case. Detectives are pulling together witness statements, going through evidence, and chasing down every lead they can find. They’re not letting this one go cold.

For the family and friends of Daysun Wilson, Sunday night changed everything. A 22-year-old with his whole life ahead of him didn’t make it home — killed during a confrontation with someone he already knew. Authorities are asking anyone who has information about McGhee’s location or knows anything about what happened that night to step up and contact law enforcement right away. Wilson deserves justice, and right now, it’s still out there waiting.
