Saginaw, Michigan – A late-night gathering outside a small convenience store turned tragic when gunfire broke out in the parking lot, leaving a 17-year-old high school senior dead.
The victim, Deon L. Wiley III, a student at Saginaw United High School, was among people present during what investigators described as a parking lot party outside the Quick Stop on South Washington Avenue.

Police say the shooting happened just after midnight, around 12:15 a.m., when officers received reports of shots fired near the store at 2034 S. Washington Ave., close to Washington Avenue and Webber Street.
When officers arrived, they found Wiley suffering from at least one gunshot wound in the parking lot. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Another person was also struck during the incident. That second victim arrived at the hospital separately and was reported to be in stable condition as of the latest updates from authorities.
Investigators said the gathering outside the store followed a school event earlier that night. Wiley had attended his senior prom at SVRC Marketplace on South Washington Avenue before heading out afterward.
Officials believe the shooting unfolded during the parking lot gathering, though the exact circumstances that led to the gunfire remain under investigation. No arrests have been made so far.
Law enforcement agencies, including Saginaw police and Michigan State Police detectives assigned to the Major Case Unit, are treating the case as a homicide and continuing to gather evidence and witness statements.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and contact investigators or Crime Stoppers as the search for answers continues.
