Brevard County: Rockledge man killed on I-95 after sudden crash that triggered DUI arrest

A Rockledge man, 24, was killed in a violent early morning crash on Interstate 95 in Brevard County.
The crash happened around 1:05 a.m. on the southbound lanes, just south of State Road 528.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the young man was driving a 2018 Infiniti Q50 in the center lane when something went wrong. The vehicle drifted off the road and moved onto the inside paved shoulder.

The Infiniti then hit a guardrail with heavy force. The impact caused major damage and scattered debris across the highway.

That debris became part of a second collision. A 2026 Volkswagen Taos, driven by 49-year-old Cynthia Willis of Palm Coast, struck the wreckage while traveling behind.

Emergency crews arrived quickly at the scene, but the 24-year-old driver was pronounced dead due to the severity of his injuries.

Willis and her 4-year-old passenger were not physically injured in the crash. However, the situation escalated after investigators reviewed what happened.

Troopers determined there was probable cause to arrest Willis on suspicion of driving under the influence. She was taken into custody and booked into the Brevard County jail.

Authorities are still working to understand why the Infiniti left the roadway in the first place. The full chain of events remains under active investigation.

The crash has added another painful reminder of how quickly a late-night drive can turn deadly on a busy highway.
