Joshua E. Collins Adams County: Clayton man’s late-night UTV ride ends in fatal rollover near Highway 24

Joshua E. Collins, Adams County: A quiet Clayton night turned tragic on Highway 24 after a single UTV crash claimed the life of a local man.

Joshua E. Collins, a 47-year-old from Clayton, lost his life shortly after midnight in a rollover involving a utility terrain vehicle. The crash happened around 12:48 a.m. near the intersection of Highway 24 and West Main Street.

Deputies from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office arrived after reports of a single-vehicle accident. When they got there, they found an overturned UTV with Collins as the only person inside.

Emergency crews worked the scene quickly, but there was nothing they could do. He was pronounced dead where the crash happened.

The Adams County Coroner’s Office later confirmed his identity. Coroner Scott Graham said a full investigation is still ongoing to determine the exact cause of death.

Early findings suggest Collins was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Reports also indicate he was not using a seatbelt, which may have increased the severity of the impact.

Investigators are still trying to understand what caused the vehicle to flip. No other cars or people were involved in the incident, making it a single-vehicle rollover.

Back in Clayton, the loss has left a quiet but heavy silence. Friends and neighbors describe him as a familiar presence in the community, and someone gone far too soon.

Authorities are also using the incident to remind UTV users about basic safety gear. Helmets and restraints, they say, can make a major difference in survival during rollovers.
