Davoris Carter Wildwood, New Jersey: 14-year-old vanishes in rough waters during school outing near busy pier

Davoris Carter Wildwood, New Jersey: A school trip turns into a desperate search for a missing teen after sudden water danger

Davoris Carter, a 14-year-old student from Delta School, remains missing after disappearing in the waters off Wildwood, New Jersey, during a supervised school trip near Morey’s Pier. The incident has triggered an urgent and ongoing search effort as families and authorities hold on to hope.

The outing took place at a popular beachfront area where students were reportedly enjoying a structured visit. Davoris was part of a group from Delta School, a program serving students with special needs in Northeast Philadelphia, and the trip included staff supervision along with a family guardian.

According to accounts from family members, a supervising adult briefly stepped away to get food. During that short window, Davoris and other students went into the water while staff remained positioned on the shoreline observing the group.

Conditions in the water reportedly changed quickly, creating danger for several students. What began as a routine beach visit escalated into panic as multiple students struggled and required immediate rescue assistance from nearby responders.

Emergency services in Wildwood responded without delay after distress calls were made. A local officer was among the first on scene and managed to pull three students from the water who were actively in distress. Those students were brought safely back to shore and treated.

Davoris, however, was not located during the initial rescue effort. His disappearance immediately shifted the focus from rescue to an extended search operation across both shoreline and deeper water areas.

Search teams have continued working across multiple days, using boats, divers, and coordinated shoreline patrols. Crews have been adjusting their approach based on tides, visibility, and changing water conditions in the area near Morey’s Pier.

Delta School leadership described the situation as deeply painful. CEO Dr. David Weathington referred to it as a devastating tragedy and said the entire school community is struggling with fear and grief while counseling support is being provided to students and staff.

Despite sustained efforts from multiple agencies, Davoris Carter has not yet been found. Authorities continue to search the water daily, with hope persisting even as the situation grows more uncertain.
