The southbound stretch of I-475 in Grand Blanc Township turned deadly Thursday afternoon when Domo Monroe, 34, lost their life in a sudden and violent rollover crash. The news spread quickly from the highway to nearby Burton, leaving a community stunned and grieving.
Police say the crash happened around 1:25 p.m. between Hill Road and the southern junction of I-75. Monroe was driving a Kia southbound when the vehicle drifted off the roadway, moved onto the shoulder, and rolled over. There were no other cars involved. It was a quiet stretch of road, until everything went terribly wrong.

Monroe was the only person in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators noted that Monroe does not appear to have been wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The impact was severe, and there was nothing emergency crews could do to save them.
Grand Blanc Township police shut down one lane of southbound I-475 as the Crash Investigation Reconstruction Team worked carefully at the scene. Evidence was collected, measurements were taken, and passing drivers were urged to slow down as flashing lights filled the afternoon air.
Back in Burton, the loss hit hard. Friends, family members, and neighbors struggled to make sense of how quickly a life could end. Monroe was known to many as someone full of warmth, someone whose presence lingered even after they left the room. Now, that presence is felt in absence.
Messages of grief and remembrance began to circulate, each one carrying the same ache. A life was cut short without warning, and the pain rippled outward, touching people who never expected to be saying goodbye so soon.
As investigators continue to document what happened, the focus in Burton has shifted to remembrance. The community is holding each other closer, sharing stories, and honoring Domo Monroe not for how they died, but for how they lived.
Domo’s name now joins the long list of lives claimed by sudden roadway tragedies. But in Burton, Monroe will be remembered as more than a statistic. They will be remembered as a person deeply loved, and deeply missed.
