Canoga Park Los Angeles: A quiet apartment gathering ended in one of the most disturbing family tragedies investigators have described in recent months. Two 10-year-old twin boys and their father were found dead inside a San Fernando Valley residence following what police believe was a murder-suicide.
Los Angeles Police Department officers were called to the 8000 block of Owensmouth Avenue on Sunday evening after reports of gunfire inside the apartment. When they arrived, they discovered a man in his mid-40s and his two young sons suffering from fatal gunshot wounds.

Investigators say the father is believed to have shot both children before turning the weapon on himself. The identities of all three have not been released as authorities wait to notify extended family members.
The children’s mother was also inside the home during the incident. She told investigators she heard the first rounds of gunfire and rushed toward the source, only for additional shots to follow moments later. She survived the incident physically unharmed but witnessed parts of the chaos and is now assisting police.
Preliminary findings suggest the shooting happened during what was supposed to be a family gathering, reportedly tied to a birthday event for the children’s mother. What began as a normal evening inside the apartment reportedly shifted into panic and violence within minutes.
At one point, investigators say the father allegedly fired in the direction of the mother but missed. Shortly after that, authorities believe he turned the weapon on himself, ending his own life inside the same residence.
Police have not confirmed a motive. Detectives are still reviewing evidence and speaking with witnesses to understand what may have led to the killings, including possible domestic issues or mental health struggles. The investigation remains active as officers reconstruct the timeline of events inside the apartment.
