Gina Ganaway FM 1585: Head-on crash leaves two dead, 6-year-old fighting for life

FM 1585 — A quiet late morning turned tragic when a violent head-on collision tore through traffic at the intersection of FM 1585 and County Road 1100. Two adults lost their lives instantly, and a child was left critically injured in the wreckage.

Authorities say the crash happened around 11:34 a.m. on Thursday. An SUV was traveling eastbound when it suddenly crossed into the westbound lane for reasons still under investigation.

Inside that SUV were 49-year-old Gina Ganaway, who was a passenger, and 49-year-old Joseph Ellis, who was driving. Both were pronounced dead at the scene due to the force of the impact.

A 6-year-old boy, also in the SUV, survived the crash but suffered serious injuries. Emergency responders rushed him to University Medical Center Lubbock for urgent treatment.

The second vehicle, a pickup truck traveling in the opposite direction, was struck head-on. The driver of that truck survived with minor injuries and was treated at the scene by medical personnel.

Investigators have not yet determined why the SUV drifted into oncoming traffic. Officials say they are carefully reviewing every possible factor, including road conditions and driver behavior.

The scene left a deep impact on first responders and passing motorists, as families were suddenly confronted with devastating loss and a child’s critical condition. The investigation remains active as authorities work to reconstruct the final moments leading up to the crash.
