A terrible highway wreck took the lives of two well-known Texas folks this weekend. Carlos and Jenn Mugica from Castle Hills died in a major crash on Friday. The collision went down right on Interstate 10 westbound in Fayette County. Local officials and close friends shared the sad news on Saturday.
The tragedy happened close to the 667 mile marker on the busy interstate. Emergency crews rushed to the scene to deal with the aftermath. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office posted updates on social media about the situation. They told drivers that the entire westbound side of IH-10 had to be shut down.


Multiple local agencies worked together during those tough hours on the highway. Sheriff’s deputies assisted the Texas Department of Public Safety at the wreck. The Flatonia Fire Department and Fayette County EMS also showed up to help. The cleanup and investigation lasted for several hours before all lanes finally reopened.
Back home in Castle Hills, the community is dealing with massive heartbreak. Mayor J.R. Treviño put out an official statement to mourn the couple. He called them proud residents who loved their town deeply. They were huge supporters of the local Fiesta celebrations.
The Mugicas were also deeply involved with the Rey Feo Consejo Educational Foundation. They spent a lot of their time advocating for local students and education. Mayor Treviño noted that their kindness and generosity touched almost everyone. Their commitment left a permanent mark on the whole neighborhood.
Friends are turning to social media to share their deep shock and grief. One close friend named Guera Vasquez posted an emotional message on Facebook. She re-shared a photo from the sheriff’s office showing all the emergency lights on the highway. She wrote that Carlos and Jennifer were loved by so many people.
The sudden loss has everyone reminding each other to cherish their loved ones. Vasquez told her friends that she just could not believe what happened. She warned everyone to hold their families tight because life is simply too short. Meanwhile, Texas DPS has not released an official crash report on what caused the wreck yet.
