A backyard birthday party is supposed to be all about cake, laughter, and kids running around. But on a recent Sunday night in South Carolina, one celebration turned into every parent’s absolute worst nightmare. A little girl went out to play and never came back inside.
The tragedy unfolded at a home located on Dickerson Road. Families were gathered to celebrate a birthday, and the house was full of energy. As the evening started winding down, people suddenly realized that six-year-old Kynzie Tyaira Dennis was nowhere to be found.

Panic quickly set in as family members searched the rooms and called out her name. With no sign of the little girl, someone dialed 911 just before 9 p.m. to report her missing. Emergency responders rushed to the scene to help with the urgent search.
First responders and family members fanned out across the property, checking every corner in the dark. The search took a devastating turn when they looked into the backyard swimming pool. There, they found Kynzie under the water.
Paramedics tried to help, but it was already too late. Investigators later explained that the six-year-old had wandered outside on her own during the party. She got into the pool area, went underwater, and simply never resurfaced.
Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore later ruled the official cause of death as an accidental freshwater drowning. The local sheriff’s office is still looking into the details to understand exactly how she slipped away unnoticed.
It was an incredibly heavy day for the local community and emergency crews alike. This heartbreaking incident actually marked the second drowning death that authorities had to investigate on that exact same Sunday.
Hours earlier, rescue teams had to recover the body of a 29-year-old man near Broyles Landing in Townville. He vanished while trying to swim back to the shore from a nearby island. His death was also ruled an accidental freshwater drowning, wrapping up a deeply tragic weekend for the area.
