Folks in this tight-knit corner of Texas are dealing with a whole lot of heartbreak right now. A heavy cloud of grief is hanging over the community after a horrific head-on wreck took the lives of two incredible women. Family members and neighbors are trying to process an absolute nightmare that happened out of nowhere on a quiet Sunday afternoon.
The trouble started right around 1:44 p.m. at a busy local crossroads. State troopers say 57-year-old Tonja Brozozowski Potts from Hallettsville was driving her silver Chrysler Pacifica down the road. Sitting right there with her was 81-year-old Patricia Jan Brozozowski, a sweet soul from West Columbia who brought decades of wisdom to everyone she loved.

They were cruising along State Highway 332 near County Road 680 when the unthinkable happened. Out of nowhere, a black Chevrolet Tahoe traveling in the opposite direction lost control. The heavy SUV drifted right across the center line and slammed directly into their minivan in a brutal, crushing collision.
The impact of the crash was absolutely catastrophic for everyone involved. Emergency crews rushed to the scene as fast as they could, flashing lights cutting through the afternoon sun. Sadly, there was nothing the paramedics could do for the two women inside the Pacifica. Both Tonja and Patricia passed away right there at the scene.
But the tragedy did not stop there for this local family. A nine-year-old child was also riding in the back of the Chrysler during the terrifying impact. The little one somehow survived the initial crush but walked away with some very serious injuries. Medics rushed the child straight to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where loved ones are now holding vigil and praying for a miracle.
Over in the other vehicle, the scene was just as chaotic. The driver of the Tahoe, 33-year-old David Oscar Turner, and his passenger, 35-year-old Khrystyna Leevon Hanner, were trapped in the wreckage. Emergency teams had to call in Life Flight helicopters to lift them out. They were flown straight to St. Luke’s Hospital, where word is Turner is currently fighting through a broken neck in critical condition.
Right now, the state police are still working hard to figure out exactly what caused that SUV to cross the line. The highway stayed shut down for four long hours while investigators took notes and cleared away the twisted metal. For the folks who loved Tonja and Patricia, though, the answers won’t bring back the two beautiful souls who kept their family whole.
