A local community is entirely heartbroken after a summer tradition turned into a family’s worst nightmare. Young King Overton was supposed to spend his Monday enjoying summer camp. Instead, the vibrant nine-year-old boy lost his life.

The tragedy happened during a scheduled session at a local swimming facility. King was participating in the SwimRVA summer camp program. What started as a regular day of camp activities quickly took a horrific turn.
Emergency teams rushed to the scene on North Wilkinson Road around mid-afternoon. Callers reported a severe medical emergency involving a child. By the time help arrived, camp staff were already trying desperately to save him.

Lifeguards and staff had pulled King from the pool. He was completely unresponsive. Workers immediately started CPR on the pool deck, trying to bring the young boy back to life.
