The horrific accident happened on a typical Thursday morning right around 7:35 a.m. Kaitlyn was riding as a passenger in a Kia Sorento traveling down U.S. 23 in Lowmansville, Kentucky. Nobody could have predicted that a routine morning drive would turn into a total nightmare in a matter of seconds.
According to the Kentucky State Police, the vehicle was heading southbound when things went terribly wrong. The SUV suddenly crossed over the center median and veered straight into the northbound lanes. It crashed directly into a massive semi tractor-trailer with incredible force.
The impact of the crash was so violent that Kaitlyn was completely thrown from the vehicle. Emergency medical teams rushed to the scene as fast as they could, but there was nothing they could do to save her. Officials unfortunately had to pronounce the young woman dead right there at the scene.
The driver of the Kia Sorento was identified as 22-year-old Johnathan Haney. He survived the initial collision but suffered catastrophic injuries from the impact. First responders quickly loaded him up and rushed him to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition fighting for his life.
