It takes only a single second for a routine Sunday evening drive to turn into a complete nightmare. Neighbors and friends in the tight-knit Millersburg area are dealing with an incredibly heavy loss this week. A tragic car crash over the weekend took the life of a well-loved community member, turning a quiet night into a scene of absolute heartbreak.
The emergency calls started coming in around 8:41 p.m. on Sunday night. Local first responders and rescue crews rushed out to a stretch of U.S. Route 62 near Township Road 626, right in Berlin Township. When help arrived on the scene, they found a devastating two-vehicle wreck that had completely blocked the roadway.

Investigators say that 49-year-old Renee E. Troyer was heading westbound behind the wheel of a blue 2016 Honda Pilot. For reasons that are still being looked into, her SUV drifted across the center line. It went straight into the path of an oncoming red 2018 Jeep Cherokee that was traveling eastbound.
The two vehicles collided head-on with massive force, sending both SUVs spinning off to opposite sides of the road. Emergency medical teams moved as fast as they could to save lives. Sadly, Renee suffered injuries that were just too severe, and she was pronounced dead right there at the scene of the crash.
Back home, folks are struggling to come to terms with the reality that Renee is suddenly gone. She was known around town as much more than just a name on an incident report. Neighbors remember her as a deeply kind woman, a cherished friend, and a rock for her family who always found ways to lift people up.
While her family navigates this unbelievable grief, they are finding comfort in the close bonds she built over the years. People are leaning on each other, sharing favorite stories of her compassion and keeping her legacy alive. The local community has stepped up, wrapping the family in support during their darkest hour.
The tragic event also left three other people severely hurt and fighting to recover. The driver of the Jeep, 32-year-old Laura L. Troyer, had to be airlifted to Summa Health Center in Akron with serious injuries. Two kids who were passengers in her vehicle were also flown to Akron Children’s Hospital in critical condition, leaving the whole community praying for their recovery.
