Zander Hamlin, Duluth: Late-night crash cuts short the promising life of a 24-year-old local.

A quiet community is mourning today after a tragic accident took a young life far too soon. Zander Leroy Hamlin was only 24 years old when his journey came to a sudden end. He was driving through Duluth Township on Wednesday night when everything changed in an instant.

The crash happened late in the evening on a familiar stretch of road. Zander was heading northbound on Homestead Road when his vehicle suddenly went off the pavement. It was a normal night that turned into an absolute nightmare for those who knew him.

His car slammed heavily into a large tree sitting inside a roadside ditch. The impact was violent enough to throw the vehicle back onto the asphalt. It spun around multiple times before finally stopping dead in the center of the lanes.

Emergency crews rushed out to the 6500 block as soon as the calls came in. First responders did everything they could to save the young man’s life. They tried life-saving measures right there on the dark roadway, but it was just too late.

Zander was pronounced dead right at the scene of the crash. It is a heartbreaking reality for a small town along the Lake Superior shoreline. A young person with his whole life ahead of him was suddenly gone.

Investigators are still trying to piece together exactly what went wrong that night. They do know that Zander was wearing his seat belt when the crash occurred. Authorities also confirmed that alcohol did not play a role in this tragedy.

However, police believe that excessive speed was a major factor in the fatal wreck. The road remains quiet now, but the loss will be felt for a very long time. Neighbors and loved ones are left holding onto memories of a life cut short.
