Cleveland lost a massive piece of its underground music community this week. Friends and family are mourning the sudden passing of Jason Edwards, widely known as “Manfiish” to thousands of heavy music fans. He was the defining voice and the high-energy front-man for one of the city’s most beloved hardcore bands.
The tragedy struck on a routine Tuesday afternoon when the local highways were filling up with everyday commuters. Jason was riding in his Jeep Patriot alongside another companion on State Route 176 South. Nobody expected a normal afternoon drive back home to turn into a complete nightmare near the Spring Road ramp.

Around 4:20 p.m., the southbound traffic ahead began to back up and slow down like it typically does during the evening rush hour. The Jeep Patriot slowed down responsibly to match the pace of the regular flow of traffic. That is exactly when an unexpected disaster came rushing fast from behind them.
A massive southbound dump truck failed to stop in time and slammed directly into the rear of the smaller Jeep. The sheer weight and force of the commercial vehicle propelled the SUV forward with unstoppable momentum. It was violently shoved into a Ford E-350 pickup truck that was sitting directly ahead in the lane.
The sequence of the heavy impacts turned chaotic within a matter of split seconds. The initial crush caused the Jeep Patriot to flip completely over onto its roof and immediately burst into an intense fire. Meanwhile, the Ford E-350 truck struck the highway median barrier and also overturned from the extreme force.
First responders rushed to the blazing scene on the Jennings Freeway but they could do nothing to rescue the occupants inside the burning Jeep. Both Jason Edwards and his unnamed passenger were tragically pronounced dead right there at the crash site. The heavy column of dark smoke from the vehicle fire could be seen from miles away.
The senior citizens inside the flipped Ford truck, a 71-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman, managed to survive the violent rollover but needed immediate medical care. Paramedics stabilized them at the scene and rushed them to a local hospital for treatment. Local police officers are still actively investigating the exact cause of the wreck to figure out why the dump truck never stopped.
