The sports world is mourning a heartbreaking loss this week. Kevin O’Malley passed away at the young age of 50. He was a former part-owner of the San Diego Padres and spent years running minor league teams. His family shared the sad news that he died on Tuesday after facing major health complications.
The trouble began last fall while Kevin was traveling for business out in New York. He suddenly got very sick during the trip. He had to wrap things up and head back home to Los Angeles to get better medical attention. Unfortunately, his body just could not shake it off.

His health kept sliding downhill over the next few months. Doctors did everything they could, but things took a turn for the worse. Eventually, he had to enter hospice care to stay comfortable. His father confirmed that his son ultimately passed away from complications tied to sepsis.
Kevin spent his final days resting peacefully surrounded by loved ones. He leaves behind a massive hole in the hearts of his close-knit family. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Allison. He was also a proud dad to four great kids named Grace, Brendan, Brooke, and Margaret.
Growing up in Los Angeles, Kevin was always a bright and athletic guy. He spent his high school days playing ball at Harvard-Westlake. Later on, he moved out east to attend the University of Pennsylvania. He even earned an MBA from the prestigious Wharton School back in 2004.
He had a real sharp mind for business outside of sports too. In 2010, he started up his own growth equity firm called Carmelina Capital Partners. He worked hard as the managing partner to build it from the ground up. He always balanced his corporate work with his love for the game.
Even with all his business success, Kevin never lost sight of what truly mattered. His father, Peter, pointed out that family always held the top spot in Kevin’s heart. Baseball was definitely a huge part of his soul, but his wife and kids were always his number one priority.
