It is a rough week for the folks out in Kentucky. A dark cloud is hanging heavy over the community after a terrible accident took away one of their own. Young Joshua Burkhart was only 23 years old when his journey came to a sudden end. People are completely heartbroken over the loss.
The whole tragedy went down on a typical Thursday morning. Joshua was out on his motorcycle, riding northbound along Industrial Boulevard. It seemed like just another normal start to the day for the young man. Nobody could have guessed how fast things would change.
For reasons still unknown, Joshua’s bike drifted right across the center line. He ended up directly in the path of oncoming traffic. A vehicle heading the other way could not avoid him, resulting in a violent head-on crash. The impact was immediate and severe.
Emergency crews rushed out to the scene as fast as they could. The wreck happened just off the West Hal Rogers Parkway, about five miles west of London. First responders gave it everything they had to save him. Sadly, Joshua passed away right there on the asphalt.
The person driving the other vehicle managed to survive the wreck. In fact, authorities confirmed that the other driver did not suffer any physical injuries at all. It is a bittersweet relief in an otherwise devastating situation. One family is deeply mourning while another counts their blessings.
Deputies had to shut down the entire roadway for hours after the crash. Accident investigators worked hard to document the scene and piece together the final moments. Local officials are still trying to figure out exactly what caused the young rider to lose control.
Now, a tight-knit group of family and friends is left with a massive void. They will always remember Joshua for his warm friendships and the good times they shared. His memory is going to live on out in Laurel County for a long time to come.
