A family’s desperate search for their missing loved one ended in absolute heartbreak on a quiet morning. Folks in the community were shocked when a body was discovered in the early hours of the day. The tragic find shattered any hopes of bringing a young man back home safely to get the care he needed.
The man was identified as 34-year-old Brock D. Lewis, a local resident who had seemingly vanished into the night. His relatives had been combing the local streets for days trying to track him down. They knew he was out there somewhere, alone and vulnerable.

Just one day before the grim discovery, his sister Hollie Linton went on Facebook to beg for help. She told friends and neighbors that the family was looking for Brock all over the place. They believed he was wandering around the East End and downtown areas.
Hollie mentioned that her brother permanent-wise seemed completely disoriented and was likely facing a severe mental health crisis. The family was trying hard to find him before things got worse. They wanted to get him proper medical attention as soon as possible.
But time ran out for Brock before help could arrive. Early in the morning on July 3, multiple people spotted something wrong and called 911. Emergency responders rushed out to North Cedar Street near East Indiana Street after the calls came in.
When the medics arrived on the scene, there was nothing they could do. Brock was found lying cold right behind a large trash dumpster. The first responders quickly realized it was a dead-on-arrival situation and called in the detectives.
Now, a local family is left to mourn a terrible loss right during the Independence Day holiday weekend. The Newark police have not released an official cause or manner of death yet. The investigation remains wide open as everyone looks for answers.
