It was supposed to be a totally normal, quiet night of house-sitting on Alabama Junction Road. Instead, it turned into an absolute nightmare that shook the small town to its core. Two people who were just doing a favor for a friend ended up losing their lives in a sudden burst of senseless violence.
Jazmine Alexis Bates was only 22 years old, a bright student at the University of Alabama with her entire life ahead of her. She was hanging out at the house with 31-year-old Jose Felix Alvarez-Duenas. The pair were keeping an eye on the place and taking care of a family dog while the homeowner was traveling out of the country.

Things took a terrifying turn early in the morning when the homeowner checked her doorbell camera from miles away. She saw a suspicious figure creeping around on her back porch and instantly felt a knot in her stomach. When she tried to call her friends to warn them and got nothing but silence, she frantically asked for a welfare check.
When local officers finally arrived at the house, they walked right into a scene of complete devastation. Both Jazmine and Jose had been shot to death inside the residence. To make the whole thing even more heartbreaking, the sweet dog they were watching was also found shot dead alongside them.
The entire community is struggling to make sense of why anyone would do something so cruel. Friends and classmates on campus are totally reeling from the sudden loss of a young student who had so much promise. There was absolutely no reason for this to happen, leaving everyone in a state of shock and deep mourning.
It didn’t take long for investigators to track down the guy they believe pulled the trigger. Within ten hours of finding the bodies, law enforcement found the suspect miles away, crammed inside an attic at a relative’s place. The craziest part is that he actually knew both Jazmine and Jose from an old job they all shared.
Now, a young college girl and her friend are gone forever, leaving their families with a massive hole in their hearts. Capital murder charges are locked in for the suspect, but no amount of jail time can bring back the lives cut short on that quiet country road.
