CITRUS HEIGHTS Crash Kills 33‑Year‑Old Driver Mia Miskic in Foggy Early Morning Collision

CITRUS HEIGHTS, Calif. — Late‑night fog and a sudden crash turned deadly early Sunday on Greenback Lane when 33‑year‑old Mia Miskic of Fair Oaks lost her life after her SUV smashed into a utility pole, authorities confirmed.

It was just before 2:00 a.m. when an automated safety alert from Miskic’s SUV summoned Citrus Heights police officers to the intersection of Greenback Lane and Dewey Drive. The street was cloaked in dense fog, limiting visibility to only a few hundred feet.

When officers arrived, they found Miskic unresponsive inside her badly damaged vehicle. First responders began CPR and other life‑saving measures right there on the pavement. Sacramento Metro Fire crews took over emergency care and rushed her to a nearby hospital. Hours later, she was pronounced dead.

Police investigators have said alcohol may have played a role in the crash, though that is still under review as part of an ongoing investigation. Detectives are looking at vehicle data, roadway conditions and witness accounts to piece together what happened in those final moments before the collision.

Foggy weather likely made the drive even more dangerous. National Weather Service readings show visibility was sharply reduced in the early hours, conditions that can fool even experienced drivers and make it hard to see obstacles ahead. Police reminded the community that low visibility, combined with late‑night hours, raises the risk of serious accidents.

Greenback Lane remained partially closed for hours as officers meticulously documented the scene and cleared debris. Traffic slowly returned to normal once the investigation at the site wrapped up.

Citrus Heights police are urging anyone who might have been on the road around that time, or who saw something unusual just before the crash, to contact the department’s traffic unit. They say even small details can help complete the picture of what went wrong.
