WARSAW, Va., Man Killed Crossing Route 360 in Hit‑and‑Run Crash

WARSAW, Virginia — A quiet Tuesday night in this small town turned tragic when 58‑year‑old Arthur Alphonso Day was hit and killed by a fleeing driver while crossing a busy stretch of Route 360 (Richmond Road) just before 7:30 p.m. on February 3, 2026, authorities say.

Friends and neighbors first learned something was wrong when emergency crews rushed to the scene near Campus Drive after multiple drivers called 911. A witness told police the first vehicle in the eastbound line swerved to miss Day as he stepped into the road, but a second vehicle struck him and kept going without stopping.

The vehicle that hit Day has been described by witnesses as a black or dark‑colored SUV, but no license plate or detailed make and model info was available to troopers. That driver fled east on Route 360 and has not been identified as the investigation continues.

Emergency responders rushed Day to VCU Tappahannock Hospital, but he died from his injuries shortly after arrival, according to the Virginia State Police. He was a lifelong resident of Warsaw and was known by folks around town, though police have declined to release more personal details about his family.

Route 360 is more than just a line on a map for locals. It’s the main east‑west road linking small businesses, farms and neighborhoods across Richmond County. Drivers use it every day, and pedestrians occasionally cross it to get where they need to go — a reality that has raised traffic safety concerns for years.

Police are urging anyone who saw the crash or has video footage from dashcams or phones to come forward. You can reach the Virginia State Police Division 1 Dispatch at 804‑750‑8758 or dial #77 from a mobile phone, or call VSP Area 2 at 804‑333‑4026. Any detail, even small, might help find the driver who left the scene.

Day’s death is a sharp reminder of how fast life can change on rural highways. Families in this region are now waiting for answers as troopers continue their search for the hit‑and‑run driver responsible for one more life lost on Virginia’s roads.
