Spring Grove woke up to heartbreak after a deadly shooting inside a quiet apartment complex left two people dead and a community searching for answers. The victims were later identified as Tyrelle Dwayne Manley Sr. and Leticia Velez, both residents of Spring Grove Borough. Investigators believe the case may involve a murder-suicide, though the final determination is still under review.
Police were called to the Spring Hallow Apartments, in the first block of East 3rd Avenue, just after 4:13 p.m. on Saturday, January 31. Officers arrived to reports of gunfire and discovered a man and a woman deceased inside one of the units. The scene was immediately secured as detectives began their work.

The York County Coroner’s Office identified 33-year-old Tyrelle Dwayne Manley Sr. as one of the victims. Manley lived in the apartment where the shooting happened. He died from multiple gunshot wounds, and while the investigation continues, his manner of death has not yet been officially ruled.
The second victim was identified as Leticia Velez, 34, though her obituary lists her age as 32. She was also from Spring Grove Borough and died from multiple gunshot wounds. A separate release from the coroner confirmed her death on Wednesday, February 4, with her manner of death still pending.
Deputy Coroner Scott Pennewill responded to the scene and formally certified both deaths. Autopsies were carried out on Tuesday, February 3, at Lehigh Valley Hospital. Authorities say the results are part of the ongoing investigation being led by York County Regional Police.
Beyond the crime scene, the human loss has been deeply felt. Family members described Manley as a devoted father and a steady presence in his family’s life. One relative shared how he stepped in to help raise her son after Manley’s brother was killed years earlier, calling him a loving uncle who showed up every day. She spoke openly about his mental health struggles but said he remained gentle, respectful, and full of care for those around him.
That pain is layered with old wounds. Family members also recalled the 2012 killing of Manley’s brother, Tyrone Manley, who was fatally stabbed outside a Harrisburg nightclub. In an emotional post, a relative wrote that her son has now lost both his father and the uncle who helped raise him, and she hopes Manley’s children will one day hear stories about the man who loved them deeply.
Leticia Velez was remembered for her professional life as well. According to her LinkedIn profile, she worked as a customer service representative at Waste Connections, where she had been employed full-time since August 2022. Friends and colleagues have quietly shared their grief as her sudden death continues to sink in.
Police have stressed that the shooting appears to be an isolated incident and that there is no threat to the public. Investigators are still piecing together what led up to the violence. For now, families are asking for privacy, prayers, and patience, as two lives lost leave a lasting silence in Spring Grove.
