Chicago Crash Kills Ali Abdullah on Northwest Side

A quiet Friday morning turned tragic on the Northwest Side when 25-year-old Ali Abdullah lost his life in a violent crash just before sunrise. The collision happened shortly before 6 a.m. in the 3500 block of North Elston Avenue, a stretch of road that was just beginning to stir with early commuters.

Police say a Toyota RAV4 was heading north on Elston Avenue when it ran a red light. At that same moment, a Toyota Prius was traveling along Kedzie Avenue. The SUV slammed into the Prius with force, shattering the calm of the morning.

Inside the Prius were two men. The driver, a 37-year-old man, suffered critical injuries. He was rushed to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where doctors worked to save his life.
Ali Abdullah, who was riding as a passenger, was also taken to the same hospital. Despite emergency efforts, he was pronounced dead soon after arrival. His death left family and friends facing sudden heartbreak.

Authorities said the driver of the RAV4 did not stay at the scene. Instead, that person ran off on foot, leaving behind a wrecked vehicle and unanswered questions. As of now, no one has been taken into custody.

The Chicago Police Department Major Accidents Investigation Unit is handling the case. Detectives are reviewing evidence and working to piece together exactly what led to the deadly impact.

Investigators are asking anyone who saw what happened to come forward. Anonymous tips can be submitted as officers continue the search for the fleeing driver. For one family, though, the focus is no longer on the investigation alone. It is on the loss of a young man whose life ended far too soon on an ordinary city street.
