KNOTTSVILLE, Ky — Brody Lanham was just 19 years old when his life was taken early Saturday morning after a shooting near KY‑144 and St. Lawrence Road. What began as a late‑night gathering in a wide open field turned deadly when a dispute escalated and someone pulled a gun. Lanham was rushed to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital but died from his injuries, leaving his family and community in shock and deep grief.
The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called to the scene at about 1 a.m. after reports of shots fired at a large field party that had drawn young people from across the area. Among the chaos, a juvenile was also struck by gunfire but has since been treated and released from the hospital. Friends described the party as big and crowded before the violence broke out.

Investigators have pieced together that two men from Oldham County came to the party after being invited by people who had been there earlier. What triggered the deadly confrontation is under review, but authorities said a physical altercation happened before shots were fired. In the hours after the shooting, law enforcement collected evidence and interviewed people who were at the scene as the investigation quickly intensified.
One of the men linked to the shooting, Ayden Louis Farrow, 19, was arrested in La Grange during a traffic stop and charged with hindering prosecution and tampering with evidence. Farrow is being held on a large bond while detectives continued to search for the suspected shooter. That suspect, 20‑year‑old James Semaj Carr of Crestwood, had been wanted on charges of murder, second‑degree assault and tampering with physical evidence before he turned himself in to police in Boone County late Sunday. Carr was later brought back to Daviess County where he remains in custody.
Lanham’s death has hit home hard in Knottsville. Those who knew him remember a young man full of life, always ready with a smile and eager to spend time with friends and family. His loss has sent ripples through the area, prompting an outpouring of support and memories shared on social media and at makeshift memorials near the site of the shooting.
Leaders in the community have urged calm and cooperation as authorities continue to piece together exactly how the shooting unfolded. Detectives have said they expect to interview more witnesses, review video footage and gather additional information as the case moves toward prosecution. No other suspects are believed to be involved at this time.
For Lanham’s family and friends, the coming days will be about more than criminal charges. Plans are underway for memorial services where loved ones can come together to celebrate his short but beloved life. In their stories about him, he was more than a victim — he was someone who brought energy and warmth to every room.
