The small community of Knottsville woke up to heartbreak early Saturday morning after a late-night gathering turned deadly. Brody Lanham, a 19-year-old local resident, lost his life after a shooting near KY 144 and St. Lawrence Road. What started as a large field party among young people ended in chaos, sirens, and a family suddenly forced to face an unimaginable loss.
Authorities say the shooting happened shortly before 1 a.m. as dozens of young people gathered at a field party in the eastern part of Daviess County. Investigators believe a physical altercation broke out during the event. In the middle of the confusion, a handgun was introduced and shots were fired, striking more than one person at the scene.

Lanham was rushed to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital by private vehicle as friends and bystanders scrambled to help. Despite the urgent effort to save him, he died shortly after arriving at the hospital. A juvenile who was also struck by gunfire suffered several wounds but was treated and later released, bringing at least a small measure of relief in an otherwise tragic night.
Investigators later learned that two young men from Oldham County had traveled to the party after being invited by people attending the gathering. Detectives began tracking their movements soon after the shooting and started piecing together what happened during the chaotic moments leading up to the gunfire.
One of those men, Ayden Louis Farrow, 19, was arrested and charged with hindering prosecution and tampering with physical evidence. Authorities say Farrow is accused of actions taken after the shooting that may have interfered with the investigation.
Another suspect, James Carr, 20, later surrendered to law enforcement. He now faces serious charges including murder, second-degree assault, and tampering with physical evidence. Officials say Carr turned himself in to police in Boone County before being transferred back to Daviess County, where the case will move forward through the court system.
For many in Knottsville, the tragedy cuts especially deep because of how close-knit the community is. Lanham was remembered by friends and loved ones as a kind-hearted young man with energy, humor, and a future that seemed wide open. Those who knew him say he had a way of making people feel welcome and valued.
Investigators say the case remains active as detectives continue reviewing evidence, interviewing witnesses, and gathering video from the party. While authorities believe the people involved have been identified, they say the work of building the full case is far from finished. Meanwhile, family and friends continue to grieve the loss of a young life taken far too soon.
