Anthony Abete, Kansas: Tragic midnight rollover wreck cuts short the promising life of a 21-year-old driver.

Garden City is dealing with a massive wave of grief this week. A young life was taken way too soon in a tragic accident. Anthony J. Abete was only 21 years old. He was a guy full of big dreams and energy. But a regular Monday evening drive completely shattered those dreams for his family and friends.

The whole thing happened out in southwest Kansas. Anthony was driving his 2004 Mitsubishi Eclipse eastbound on Burnside Drive. He was right near the intersection of U.S. Highway 83 in Finney County. It was supposed to be just another normal night out on the road.

Then things went wrong in a split second. State troopers say the car drifted left of the center line. Anthony quickly tried to correct the steering wheel to get back into his lane. But the car started to slide sideways across the pavement. It veered completely off the road to the left and flipped over.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene as fast as they could. The wreck was severe, and the vehicle was badly damaged. Both Anthony and his 19-year-old passenger, Adan Gonzalez, needed immediate medical help. First responders worked quickly to get them out of the vehicle.

Paramedics took both young men straight to St. Catherine Hospital. The doctors and nurses did everything they humanly could to save them. Tragically, Anthony passed away from the heavy injuries he sustained in the rollover. The news broke hearts across the entire town.

There is a really painful detail in the highway patrol report. Investigators found out that neither Anthony nor Adan was wearing a seatbelt when the car flipped. It is a stark reminder that makes the loss feel even heavier. Adan survived the crash but he is still dealing with serious injuries.

Now, the community is coming together to wrap its arms around the Abete family. Anthony was a beloved son and a loyal friend who brought constant laughter to everyone. His journey ended way too early on that dark highway. But the sweet memories he left behind will stay alive in Garden City forever.
