Inside the building, officers located Bruce suffering from severe gunshot injuries. Emergency responders quickly moved him to a hospital in critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Bruce later died from his wounds, turning the investigation into a homicide case.

The loss has left a deep wound in the community. Bruce had been living in Winnipeg but remained closely tied to his roots as a member of the Poplar River First Nation. Family members, friends, and neighbors describe his death as a heartbreaking moment that has shaken many who knew him.

Investigators with the Winnipeg Police Service Homicide Unit have now taken over the case. Detectives are working to piece together what happened inside the apartment building that afternoon and who may be responsible for the deadly shooting.

Authorities have asked anyone who may have seen or heard something around the time of the shooting to come forward. Even the smallest detail, investigators say, could help shed light on what led to Bruce’s death.

For now, the block along Selkirk Avenue remains a place marked by sorrow. As police continue their search for answers, the Winnipeg community mourns the life of Kingsley Murray Bruce and hopes that justice will follow the tragedy that unfolded in broad daylight.
