SHENANDOAH IOWA TEEN ALIYAH PARKER DIES IN I-80 CRASH WITH SEMI-TRUCK

Shenandoah, Iowa is holding its breath this week after 19-year-old Aliyah Parker was killed Saturday in a fiery crash on Interstate 80 near the Nebraska-Iowa border. Family, friends and neighbors are still trying to process the sudden loss of a young life that should have just been beginning.

It happened just after mid-morning on Jan. 24. According to police, Aliyah was driving her Chevrolet Malibu westbound on I-80 near mile marker 0 around 11:15 a.m. when she lost control on what investigators later described as slick or challenging road conditions. Her car slammed into the back of a semi-truck that was also heading west.

Officers from the Council Bluffs Police Department were first on the scene. They found Aliyah seriously injured and rushed her to a nearby hospital. Despite the efforts of medics, she did not survive. Law enforcement officials say speed likely played a role, with investigators pointing to driving too fast for the conditions at the time of the collision.

Traffic crews had to slow westbound lanes for hours as the crash site was cleared and authorities documented the scene. Police are still piecing together exactly what happened and are urging anyone who saw the crash to call the traffic unit at 712-328-4948 to help with their investigation.

Aliyah was a beloved member of the Shenandoah community. In online tributes and a memorial fundraiser started by family, she’s remembered as a bright, joyful young woman whose love and light touched many. Friends described her as someone always ready with a smile and a word of encouragement, someone who made ordinary days feel a little warmer.

The loss has left a deep ache in the hearts of those who knew her. Messages of prayer and support have been pouring in from classmates, neighbors and local churches. Many talk about how Aliyah was just getting started on life — with plans, hopes and dreams that now go unfinished.

As this tight-knit community grieves, family members say they’re focusing on the joy she brought into their lives. They’re reminding each other that, even though her time was short, Aliyah’s kindness and spirit will stay with them forever.
