Covelo, California — The small Round Valley community is in mourning after the death of 38-year-old Audrey Card, who was shot and killed in the early morning hours of April 19, 2026, in a violent incident that has shaken residents across the area.
According to authorities, the shooting happened around 6:13 a.m. on a dirt road near Charlie Hurt Highway in Covelo. Card was reportedly struck by gunfire and urgently moved by a civilian trying to get her help.
In a desperate attempt to save her life, she was first taken toward the Covelo Volunteer Fire Department along Highway 162. When emergency personnel were not immediately found, she was then moved again to a nearby residence on South Airport Road.
Deputies from the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Round Valley Tribal Police arrived shortly after. They found Card unconscious with multiple gunshot wounds and immediately began CPR along with other life-saving measures.
