Muskogee, OK Man Killed in Early Morning Shooting, Loved Ones Left in Shock

MUSKOGEE, OK — Early Saturday morning, 38‑year‑old Elio Hernandez was shot and killed in the 900 block of North K Street, leaving a quiet neighborhood shaken and a community grieving.

Just after 4 a.m., police responded to gunfire in the area. When officers arrived, they found Hernandez in the front yard with a gunshot wound. First responders worked quickly, but Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to investigators, the deadly shooting followed a physical argument inside a nearby home. Hernandez and another man, later identified as 42‑year‑old Jesus Garcia, were involved in that altercation before Garcia left the house.

Minutes later, police say Garcia returned and fired shots, striking Hernandez while he was outside talking with others. After the shooting, Garcia fled and has not been found. Authorities describe him as armed and dangerous and have warned people not to approach him.

Friends and family have spoken about Hernandez as a kind father and loyal friend. Neighbors described him as someone who got along with most people and was known for his easy laugh. The sudden, violent loss has left many in the community struggling to make sense of what happened.

Police continue to gather evidence and follow leads as they search for Garcia. Detectives have urged anyone with information to come forward to help bring answers to the grieving family.

As the community tries to heal, people are lighting candles, sharing memories, and holding each other up in the wake of an early morning that changed so many lives.
