A terrible tragedy hit a local community over the weekend when a sudden car ride turned fatal. A quiet Saturday morning quickly changed into a nightmare for several families after a horrific single-vehicle accident took the lives of two young individuals. The whole thing went down right around 11:35 a.m. out in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana. According to the state troopers, the crash happened right on Louisiana Highway 9, not too far from Louisiana Highway 518. It was a normal morning until everything went completely wrong in an instant.
State investigators found out that a 2022 Ram pickup truck was driving south on the highway. For reasons that nobody really understands yet, the truck suddenly veered off the pavement. It kept going until it slammed directly into a tree on the side of the road.
The impact was severe, and two passengers inside the truck did not make it. Officials later identified them as 22-year-old Katie Barber from Tylertown, Mississippi, and 14-year-old Benson Brady from Kentwood. Emergency workers pronounced both of them dead right there at the scene of the crash.
The driver and two other passengers in the pickup truck managed to survive the collision. They all suffered moderate injuries from the impact. First responders quickly loaded them up and rushed them to a nearby hospital so doctors could treat them and help them recover.
Right now, Louisiana State Police are trying to figure out exactly what caused the truck to leave the road. The police noted that they do not think alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. Still, they took standard toxicology samples to be completely sure as they keep investigating.
