Jose Dantes, Mattapan: A young Brockton man loses his life in a chaotic late-night shooting.

A weekend night out should never end in tragedy. For 26-year-old Jose Dantes, a quick trip from Brockton turned into his final hours. He was just hanging out when a sudden burst of gunfire changed everything in an instant.

The whole thing went down early Saturday morning in Boston. It was right around 1:45 a.m. when the peace of the neighborhood was totally shattered. Residents heard loud pops and immediately knew something was terribly wrong.

Boston police rushed to the scene near Blue Hill Avenue after getting emergency calls. When officers pulled up, they found a chaotic and horrifying scene. There were multiple people on the ground suffering from fresh gunshot wounds.

First responders tried their best to save everyone they could find. Unfortunately, Jose Dantes had injuries that were just too severe. Emergency workers had to pronounce the young Brockton resident dead right there on the pavement.

He was not the only one caught in the crossfire that night. The bullets flew wildly and managed to strike four other individuals in the area. Three of them were rushed to local hospitals, while another walked into a clinic later on.

Losing a young guy like Jose has sent shockwaves through his hometown of Brockton. Friends and family are left dealing with a massive hole in their hearts today. Nobody expected a standard weekend trip to Boston to end this way.

Now, homicide detectives are working around the clock to find out what started the violence. They are begging the community to speak up if they saw anything suspicious. For now, a grieving family is just waiting for answers and justice.
