Daizhan Perry, Rembert: A quiet neighborhood is shattered as a hail of bullets steals a young life and wounds two others on Easy Street.

It was a typical, warm Saturday night in Sumter County when the peace on Easy Street violently evaporated. Around 10:30 p.m., the sound of sudden gunfire ripped through the air, permanently changing the lives of several local families. When the smoke cleared, a young man lay dead, and two others were rushing to the emergency room.

Daizhan K’Vonte Perry was the young soul at the center of this nightmare. He did not survive the night, succumbing to multiple gunshot wounds right there at the scene. Now, his family and closest friends are left dealing with a massive, gut-wrenching void that feels completely impossible to fill.

Rembert is not the kind of place where people expect this sort of raw violence on a weekend evening. The local community has been rocked to its core, with neighbors leaning on each other just to process the shock. Condolences and memories are pouring in as everyone tries to wrap their heads around how quickly everything changed.

The bullets did not just stop with Perry during the chaos. Two other individuals were caught in the crossfire during the unexpected attack. They were quickly transported by emergency responders to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital to be treated for their injuries.

Thankfully, medical staff confirmed that the injuries sustained by the surviving victims are non-life-threatening. Both individuals are currently listed in stable condition, fighting to recover physically while dealing with the deep mental trauma of the shooting.

Sheriff Anthony Dennis and his team at the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office have been working around the clock since the first 911 calls came in. The department has explicitly stated that they believe this was an isolated incident. They want to reassure nervous locals that there is no active, ongoing threat to the wider public.

But knowing there is no immediate danger does not bring Daizhan back or fix the broken hearts on Easy Street. Investigators are still searching for a person of interest who might hold the answers to why this happened. As the community wraps Perry’s family in prayers, anyone with a tip is being urged to step up and talk to the authorities.
