Bryan police continue investigating a deadly motorcycle crash that claimed the life of 18-year-old Anthony Banda Thursday night along East State Highway 21 in Brazos County.
The fatal collision happened near Wallis Road and Crosswind Drive at approximately 9:50 p.m., drawing a large emergency response after reports of a serious wreck involving a motorcycle and an SUV. Officers arriving at the scene found heavy damage and immediately began securing the roadway for an extensive investigation.
According to preliminary findings from the Bryan Police Department, the SUV involved in the crash was traveling westbound and had entered the center turn lane while preparing to turn left onto Wallis Road. At nearly the same moment, Anthony Banda was riding eastbound on his motorcycle and moved into the same center lane while attempting to turn left onto Crosswind Drive.
Authorities said the motorcycle collided with the front section of the SUV inside the shared turning lane area. The crash left Banda with critical injuries that proved fatal at the scene despite emergency response efforts.
The SUV driver survived and was transported to a local hospital with injuries that police described as non-life-threatening. Officials have not publicly identified the driver as the investigation remains ongoing.
Police noted that neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to have contributed to the collision. Investigators instead are focusing heavily on roadway positioning, lane usage, vehicle movement, and visibility conditions at the time of impact.
The section of East State Highway 21 where the crash occurred is considered one of the busier corridors in Bryan, carrying steady commuter and commercial traffic throughout the day and late evening hours. Multiple access roads, turn lanes, and nearby residential connections often create complicated traffic patterns in the area.
Emergency crews temporarily shut down portions of the roadway Thursday night while officers gathered evidence and reconstructed the scene. Drivers in the area experienced delays before traffic eventually resumed later in the night.
