The tight-knit town of Ansonia is completely broken today as everyone tries to process the sudden loss of 21-year-old Yukahn Riffell. A young guy known for his massive smile and an even bigger heart was taken in a split second on a dark stretch of highway. No one ever expects a regular weekend drive to end in this kind of devastating heartbreak.
The tragedy went down on Saturday evening right on Interstate 75 Northbound in Miami County. Around 8:00 p.m., things took a terrible turn near State Route 41. Yukahn was driving his 2005 Chevrolet Impala when life changed forever for everyone who knew and loved him.

State troopers say the young driver was heading north when his car drifted out of the regular travel lanes. For reasons still under investigation, the Chevy entered a closed section of a highway construction zone. Up ahead in that restricted area sat a massive Freightliner semi-truck.
The semi-truck had already been stopped inside the closed lane for several minutes before the impact. Yukahn’s Impala struck the back of the big rig with incredible force. First responders rushed to the scene after getting frantic calls about a severe wreck on the interstate.
Emergency crews pulled out all the stops to save the young man’s life. Despite their best efforts and rapid medical care, the injuries from the collision were just too severe. Yukahn passed away right there, leaving a massive void that his family and friends are struggling to face.
Back home in Ansonia, the shockwave of grief is incredibly heavy. Loved ones are remembering Yukahn as a kind, hard-working soul who lifted up everyone around him. His positive attitude and endless generosity made him the kind of person you simply could not forget.
As the community rallies around the Riffell family with prayers and love, state troopers from the Piqua Post are digging into the details. They are still trying to figure out exactly what caused the vehicle to leave its lane. Memorial services will be shared by the family down the road once they find the strength to plan them.
