Markivia Holmes, El Dorado: A single late-night gunshot cuts short a vibrant thirty-one-year-old life on South Pelham Street.

Midnight in El Dorado is usually pretty quiet, but this past Wednesday night was different. Around 11 p.m., the peace was completely shattered in the 300 block of South Pelham Street. A sudden gunshot echoed through the neighborhood, bringing local police rushing to the scene.

When the officers got there, they found something terrible. A young woman named Markivia Holmes was lying on the ground. She was only 31 years old, a local resident with her entire life ahead of her.

She was suffering from a single gunshot wound that looked incredibly serious. First responders didn’t waste a single second. They loaded her into an ambulance and rushed her over to the nearest hospital.

The medical team did everything they possibly could to save her life. Sadly, her injuries were just too severe. Doctors had to make the tough call, and she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

While Markivia’s family began to deal with this horrific nightmare, the police went right to work. They didn’t take long to identify a prime suspect. Investigators pointed the finger at a 20-year-old local guy named Ronald Pierce.

Cops tracked Pierce down quickly and picked him up. The arrest went down smoothly without any kind of extra trouble or incident. Now, he is sitting in a cell facing serious charges of manslaughter and a felony for carrying a firearm.

The neighborhood is still trying to process the sudden loss of Markivia. The El Dorado Police Department is keeping the investigation wide open to figure out exactly what led to this tragedy. They are asking anyone who knows anything to give their detectives a call right away.
