The small North Texas town of Aledo is grieving after 14-year-old Brayden Martin was killed in a tragic ATV crash Wednesday night, just hours before he was expected to celebrate one of the biggest moments of his young life.
Brayden, an eighth-grader at Aledo Middle School and a well-known select baseball player, died after an ATV crash on San Jacinto Drive near Aledo around 8:40 p.m. on May 20. Community reports and local officials said he was thrown from the vehicle during the crash. Emergency crews and deputies with the Parker County Sheriff’s Office rushed to the scene, but the teenager did not survive.

The heartbreaking timing has shaken families across the Aledo community. School officials said Brayden had been preparing to take part in middle school graduation events the very same night. Instead of celebrating with classmates, friends and relatives were left mourning a young boy many described as full of energy, kindness and promise.
Aledo ISD confirmed Brayden’s death Thursday morning and said grief counselors and support staff were brought onto campus to help students and teachers cope with the devastating news. The district described the loss as deeply painful for the entire Bearcat family.
Brayden was also a standout baseball player for Wildcatters NTX 14U Place, where teammates and coaches remembered him as much more than an athlete. In emotional tributes shared online, the organization called him family and said his smile, love for the game and impact on everyone around him would never be forgotten.
The tragedy quickly spread through the close-knit town west of Fort Worth. Friends, parents, classmates and local leaders flooded social media with prayers and memories. Aledo Mayor Shane Davis shared condolences to the Martin family, calling Brayden’s death impossible to fully understand.
The Aledo Bearcat Baseball team also honored Brayden after a regional finals victory, dedicating the win and their upcoming state semifinal appearance to him. Players and coaches asked the community to continue praying for Brayden’s family, friends and teammates as they struggle through the unimaginable loss.
Authorities have not publicly released additional information about what caused the crash. The Parker County Sheriff’s Office continues investigating the incident.
For many in Aledo, the pain goes beyond the loss of a student athlete. Residents say Brayden was the kind of kid people naturally rooted for — respectful, hardworking and always carrying a bright spirit around others. His sudden death has left a silence across the community that many say will be felt for a very long time.
