Greensboro Police say a 61-year-old man has died after a shooting that took place Thursday morning, April 9, 2026, in Greensboro. The incident happened in the 100 block of East Carteret Street. Officers arrived after a report of gunfire around 10:43 a.m.
When police, fire crews, and emergency medical teams got to the scene, they found Jimmy Neve suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. The situation was already critical when responders arrived.

First responders tried to save his life right there on the street. Despite their efforts, Neve was pronounced dead at the scene. The area was quickly secured as investigators moved in.
Detectives from the homicide unit began working the case immediately. They collected evidence from the scene and spoke with witnesses in the neighborhood. Information gathered at the location became key to identifying a suspect.
Investigators later identified the suspect as 24-year-old La’Quan Deandre Nora. Police teams focused on tracking his movements after the shooting was linked to him through early findings.
Special units with Greensboro Police located Nora in the 1700 block of Brighton Street. He was taken into custody without any reported resistance. Officers confirmed the arrest happened later the same day.
Nora now faces several charges, including first-degree murder. He is also charged with felony breaking and entering intended to cause terror, along with two counts of discharging a firearm into occupied property. He is being held at the Guilford County Jail without bond.
Authorities also confirmed this case marks the fifth homicide reported in Greensboro in 2026. The investigation is still open, but police say there are no other suspects being sought at this time. Officials continue to ask anyone with information to come forward.
