Ashlee Sumrall Jackson: Teen passenger killed in late-night highway crash at busy intersection

Ashlee Sumrall Jackson: A 17-year-old girl lost her life after a violent two-vehicle crash in Jackson, Mississippi, late Saturday night. The crash happened at the intersection of Highway 49 and Cynthia Road, a spot known for steady night traffic and fast-moving lanes.

It was about 9:30 p.m. on May 30 when the collision occurred. A gray 2026 Mitsubishi Outlander was heading south on Highway 49. At the same time, a white 2023 Honda Accord was traveling west on Cynthia Road.

Investigators said the Honda crossed into the path of the Mitsubishi. The two vehicles collided hard in the intersection, leaving both cars heavily damaged and scattered across the roadway.

Ashlee Sumrall was sitting in the front passenger seat of the Honda. She suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after emergency responders arrived.

The driver of the Honda, an 18-year-old, was rushed to a local hospital with serious injuries. A 15-year-old boy seated in the back was also taken to the hospital and listed in stable to critical condition.

The driver of the Mitsubishi survived the crash but reported pain and received medical treatment at the scene. The impact was severe enough to require immediate emergency response from multiple units.

Police in Jackson say the investigation is still ongoing as they work to determine exactly how the Honda entered the opposing lane. Officials are asking anyone with information about the crash to come forward.

A fundraiser has been started to help Ashlee Sumrall’s family cover funeral expenses and other unexpected costs. Those close to her say she was deeply loved and will be remembered by many.
