Officers with the Columbus Division of Police were called to the 1700 block of Sullivant Avenue at about 11:47 p.m. on March 10, 2026. Dispatchers had received reports of a stabbing in the area. When officers arrived, they found Carter suffering from at least one stab wound. Emergency responders rushed him to a nearby hospital, but despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Investigators say the suspected attacker, 63-year-old James Jacobs, was located a short distance away from the scene and taken into custody. Authorities later confirmed that Jacobs has been charged with murder and is currently being held at the Franklin County Jail as the investigation moves forward.
