Chicago police say a 37‑year‑old man was fatally shot Sunday night while sitting in his car in West Pullman on the Far South Side. The man was parked in a dark Nissan Maxima in the 100 block of East 118th Place when someone opened fire about 9:30 p.m. and struck him multiple times in the body. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and no one is in custody as detectives work to piece together what happened.
Neighbors told reporters they heard the rapid pop of gunshots in the quiet residential block just before police and ambulance crews arrived. The victim’s car sat motionless with bullet holes in the driver’s side when first responders reached the location. There were no obvious signs of a chase or struggle before the shooting, suggesting the attack was sudden and without warning.

Friends and family gathered Monday morning near the scene, struggling to make sense of the loss. They described the victim as a quiet man who loved his family and had plans for the year ahead. “He didn’t deserve this,” one friend said, eyes welling. “He was just sitting in his car like any other night.”
Chicago Police spokesman Sgt. Anthony Guglielmi said Area Two detectives were called to investigate and that ballistics teams had collected evidence from the vehicle and street. Authorities have not released a description of a suspect or motive, and they urged anyone with information to contact homicide detectives.
This killing is part of a string of weekend violence across the city, where police reported multiple shootings. Still, West Pullman residents say more can be done to keep their streets safe. “We want answers,” a neighbor said, “and we want to know this doesn’t happen again.”
Family members planned a small vigil later in the day to remember him. They placed flowers and candles where his car had been parked and spoke about his laugh, his dreams, and the everyday moments they now won’t get back.
As detectives follow up leads, police stressed that even small tips could help crack the case. For now, the victim’s name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
