Fairfield, Conn. 22‑Year‑Old Jake Seco Killed After Leaving Stricken Car on I‑95

Fairfield woke up Friday to heartbreaking news after a late‑night crash along Interstate 95 South claimed the life of 22‑year‑old Jake Seco, a Norwalk resident with roots in local sports and the community. The early‑morning collision happened just before Exit 23 when Seco’s car veered into the median and struck a concrete wall, then he was hit by a passing vehicle after leaving his car. The scene shut down the busy highway for hours as investigators worked into the morning.

According to state police, Seco was driving south in a Saturn on the three‑lane stretch of I‑95 around 2:25 a.m., when his car inexplicably drifted left and hit the concrete barrier dividing the southbound lanes. The vehicle came to rest in the median. For reasons still under investigation, Seco stepped out of his car and walked back into the travel lanes where traffic was moving. He was then struck by a Nissan Rogue that troopers said was heading south at the time. Seco was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.

The highway closure lasted around six hours as crews documented the scene and cleared the wreckage, leaving drivers to detour and navigate heavy early morning traffic. State Police continue to review the evidence to understand exactly what led Seco to leave his vehicle and walk into lanes where cars were still moving at highway speeds.

Friends and neighbors of Seco expressed deep sorrow. At just 22, he had recently graduated and was remembered as a committed athlete at Brien McMahon High School, where he played football and wrestled. Those who knew him described a young man who was active, cared about his friends and family, and had a bright future ahead.

Many in the Norwalk and Fairfield communities have shared memories of Seco’s warmth and energy. A local fundraising effort organized by family and friends is helping cover funeral and memorial expenses, drawing support from neighbors who remembered his kindness and youthful spirit.

Officials are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact Connecticut State Police, as they piece together the final moments of that early Friday morning. In the meantime, Seco’s passing has left a tangible void for those who knew him, turning a regular stretch of highway into the site of profound loss.

His friends and family noted that Jake’s life shouldn’t be defined by the tragic way it ended, but by the many moments of laughter, support and connection he shared with others throughout his short life.
