BOISE: Homedale Woman Dies After Wrong-Way Crash on I-84

BOISE, Idaho — A quiet night on Interstate 84 turned to heartbreak on Friday, February 6, 2026, when a 20-year-old woman from Homedale died after a wrong-way driver plowed into her car. The young woman, identified by authorities as Gabriela González, was riding as a passenger in a 2013 Hyundai Elantra when the crash happened just before 8 p.m. near the Middleton Road overpass.

Police say a 37-year-old man from Nampa was driving a silver 2003 Ford F-350 the wrong way on the eastbound lanes of I-84. He first grazed a big Freightliner truck, then slammed head-on into the Hyundai. Gabriela was killed at the scene. Two other people — the 23-year-old driver of the Hyundai and a 23-year-old woman in another vehicle — were taken to hospitals with injuries.

Witnesses and investigators described a chaotic scene. Fire crews, paramedics, and State Police rushed in as traffic ground to a stop. The highway stayed closed for hours while crews cleared the wreckage and detectives began their inquiry.

Neighbors and friends in Homedale said Gabriela was a radiant young woman with a big heart. Those who knew her spoke of how she helped others, especially agricultural workers, and how her energy lifted up people around her. Her leadership and kindness were the threads that tied her closely to the community. Family members described her as someone who made life better for others.

The driver who caused the crash didn’t stay. After the collision, he tried to flee but was soon caught by police. He faces serious charges, including driving under the influence, involuntary manslaughter, and assault. Court dates and legal proceedings have yet to be set, but prosecutors are moving forward with multiple counts related to the tragedy.

For the people who loved Gabriela, the loss has left a deep ache. Friends recalled her laughter, her dedication, and her dreams. Her work supporting others gave her a strong reputation, and her absence is felt already in families and classrooms and in every place she brought joy.

In Homedale and beyond, people are remembering Gabriela with quiet vigils, shared stories, and plans to honor her spirit. Though her life was brief, her impact was real, and it will be remembered by those who knew her.
