Mission, Texas — Unnamed Suspect Shot After Gunfire Erupts at IBC Bank

Mission, Texas — A tense afternoon at an IBC Bank along Shary Road turned violent when police responding to a reported kidnapping came under fire, leaving one suspect wounded and a police officer injured. The chaos unfolded quickly and shook a usually quiet stretch of the city.

Mission police say officers were dispatched around 2:04 p.m. Wednesday to the 100 block of South Shary Road after a caller reported a possible kidnapping in progress inside the bank. The call set off an urgent response as patrol units rushed to the scene, expecting a high-risk situation.

According to Police Chief Cesar Torres, officers arrived and encountered two suspects sitting inside a white vehicle near the bank. What began as an attempted contact rapidly escalated, with no time for lengthy negotiations or calm commands.

During the encounter, one of the suspects opened fire on the officers. Bullets struck several police vehicles, turning the parking area into a dangerous crossfire zone. Officers immediately returned fire to stop the threat and protect themselves and others nearby.

One of the suspects was hit during the exchange. The injured suspect, whose identity has not yet been released, was rushed to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities have not disclosed his condition, saying it remains unknown for now.

Police confirmed that one officer was also injured in the shooting. The officer’s injuries were described as non-life-threatening, and officials emphasized that the officer is expected to recover. No other injuries were reported.

The Mission Police Department continues to investigate the reported kidnapping that prompted the response. Meanwhile, the Texas Rangers have taken over the investigation into the officer-involved shooting, following standard protocol for incidents involving police use of force. Officials say the case remains active, and more details will be shared as they become available.
