Morning traffic along a quiet stretch of South Main Road in Otis turned tragic when a violent crash between two tractor-trailers claimed the life of a Connecticut truck driver. The victim was identified as 32-year-old Antonio Luis Marcucci of Waterbury, a driver whose day on the road ended in a devastating collision that authorities are still working to understand.
The crash happened shortly after 9:09 a.m. Thursday in the 1300 block of South Main Road, a rural roadway winding through the hills of western Massachusetts. When police and emergency crews arrived, they were met with a chaotic scene. Two massive tractor-trailers sat on opposite sides of the road, both badly damaged from the impact.

Investigators said one of the trucks, carrying Connecticut license plates, was sitting in the northbound lane. The second tractor-trailer, registered in Oklahoma, had ended up in a snowbank on the southbound side of the roadway. The force of the collision left the vehicles scattered and the roadway temporarily shut down as responders rushed to help.
Inside the Connecticut truck, emergency crews found Marcucci pinned in the cab. First responders worked quickly to reach him, providing aid at the scene before transporting him to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Despite those efforts, Marcucci later died from his injuries at the hospital.
Officials said the driver of the Oklahoma tractor-trailer did not suffer serious injuries in the crash.
Early findings from investigators suggest Marcucci had been traveling north on South Main Road when his tractor-trailer lost control. Authorities believe the truck crossed the center line into the southbound lane and collided head-on with the oncoming tractor-trailer.
What caused the truck to lose control remains unclear. Investigators are examining several possibilities, including road conditions, vehicle performance, and other factors that may have played a role in the crash.
The scene remained active for several hours as police, firefighters, and state investigators worked to document the wreckage and gather evidence. Crashes involving large commercial trucks often require extensive investigation because of the size of the vehicles and the number of potential factors involved.
Authorities commonly review driver logs, vehicle maintenance records, road conditions, and witness statements in cases like this.
For now, officials say the investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed. The Berkshire District Attorney’s Office confirmed that the case remains under review as investigators continue piecing together the events leading up to the fatal crash.
Meanwhile, the death of Marcucci has drawn attention in both Massachusetts and Connecticut, where the 32-year-old lived and worked. Truck drivers spend countless hours on the road keeping goods moving across the country, and incidents like this highlight the risks that come with that responsibility.
Officials say they are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who may have information about what happened to come forward as the investigation continues.
